Open Window Studio Summer Art Camp
Our goal at Open Window Studio is to provide a supportive community where we all have the freedom to explore and grow creatively.
We offer week-long summer art and clay camps for ages 5-16 in a creative, idyllic setting.
Our summer art camp gives campers the time, space and confidence to explore their ideas. Campers of all ages become part of a group of artists exploring, experimenting and creating together.
Page Zekonis is a local artist who founded Open Window Studio in 2003 to offer classes to children and adults of all ages and abilities. Page encourages the creative exploration of ideas and materials in an atmosphere that is fun, respectful, and full of surprises. She is especially interested in working with middle and high school students and has developed an art program for this age group which includes Guided Open Studio classes and week-long art excursions to Washington, DC/Baltimore and Santa Fe, NM.
Jill Ryerson, clay teacher has had her hands in clay and her head in education for most of her adult life.
Her passion for clay began in elementary school when she couldn’t wait for the art teacher to start the next clay project. This passion grew as the teenaged-Jill experienced wheel-throwing for the first time. Once she was hooked, Jill’s study of clay progressed through college and beyond.
Kaya Surden has been attending Page’s art camps since she was ten years old and has spent the last two summers working there. In addition to her passions for reading, writing, and art, Kaya manages technical lighting for both her school and local theater productions. This fall, Kaya will begin her first year at Bryn Mawr College, where she plans to study creative writing.
Eden began taking after school classes with Open Window Studio as a first grader and continued on to come to almost every summer camp we offered! She has also travelled with Page on art trips to Washington, DC/Baltimore and to Santa Fe. She is known for her amazing charcoal drawings of human and animal skulls. The one thing that has taken her away from art making is Color Guard. If we’re lucky, she will bring her flags and show us some flag tosses! Eden will be entering high school in the fall.
Kallahan is a high school student at Longmont High. Her love for art began in the 4th grade and has only continued to grow. Recently she has been interested in branching out and exploring all different types of mediums. She also enjoys playing music and learning new instruments. Kallahan loves working with children, helping them grow and have fun as young artists.
Charlotte has been a camper at Open Window Studio for many years. This is her first summer working for the camp. Charlotte loves painting and experimenting with different art mediums, and she loves working with children. In her words, “Children are so much fun to work with; they are creative and inspired!” When she is not making art, she is a cheerleading, reading, baking, and hanging out with her friends! She is excited to make art with everyone this summer!
Our space
We are located on a small family farm located between Boulder and Longmont. It is a magical place surrounded by cottonwood and willow trees, open fields, a lavender garden, an old barn, chickens, several friendly dogs and two horses – plenty of inspiration and space for creative ideas to bloom!
Our indoor space includes a ceramic studio and a painting/mixed media studio with large garage doors that are open to the outdoors. And, of course, the entire outdoors is our studio!
